Salt Spring Island is one of the Gulf Islands, situated between Vancouver Island and the mainland of Vancouver on the Strait of Georgia. The islands include Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Saturan and Salt Spring Island. Access to the islands is by BC Ferries, float or charter planes, helicopter or private marine vessel. Salt Spring Island is the largest and busiest of the Gulf Islands, with a wide array of amenities and property types. History: Salt Spring Island is a Coast Salish territory, with evidence of the First Nations population dating back at least 5,000 years. Some of the largest settlements were found at HwnJ'nuts (Fulford Harbour), Shiyahwt (Ganges), StsBth (Long Harbour), and Puqdnup (Hudson Point). Salt Spring Island also provided a safe haven for many Black settlers who fled the United States, mainly San Francisco, seeking better rights. The temperate climate, bountiful lands and surrounding waters attracted a diverse population over the years and the Island became more developed and populated. Over 11,000 people now call Salt Spring home permanently, drawing many artists, musicians, hobby farmers and nature enthusiasts.

Amenities: The Ganges Village, which was named after HMS Ganges, a Royal Navy Battleship, and is centrally located on the east side of the Island. There is the main Ganges Village that offers a grocery stores, many restaurants, two marinas, parks, Disc Golf course, a swimming pool, pharmacies, post office, library, banks, gas stations, liquor stores and many art shops. The ‘Upper Village’ is just a moment away and provides the island’s only hospital, Legion, RCMP station, shops, restaurants and more. There are a few smaller ‘village centres’ at Fulford, Vesuvius and Fernwood – each providing charming world class amenities and services. Plus there is a golf course, a thriving arts and culture scene, spas, and more! Students benefit from an Elementary, Middle and High School.

Nature / Recreation: Salt Spring is also widely renowned for its striking natural beauty with a diverse topography including mountain tops, coastal trails, lush forests, rolling valleys and numerous private beaches.
